Elon Musk Plans to Launch an AI Rival to ChatGPT Creator

Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and Twitter, is said to be preparing to launch a new artificial intelligence (AI) company to compete with OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT. Musk is assembling a team of AI researchers and engineers and is in discussions with several investors about the venture. According to sources, many investors have already shown an interest in the new company, and Musk himself incorporated a company called X.AI on 9 March, of which he is the sole director.

The move marks a significant shift in Musk’s position, as only a few weeks ago, he co-signed a letter calling for a six-month pause in AI research. Musk’s new startup is expected to put him in direct competition with OpenAI, which he co-founded in 2015 but left the board three years later after disagreements with management over AI safety.

The new venture will see Musk go head-to-head with tech giants such as Microsoft, Google, and Amazon, who are all active in the rapidly evolving generative AI sector. Musk’s business interests already include Tesla, Twitter, SpaceX, Neuralink, and The Boring Company, with SpaceX recently being issued with a Starship launch license.

The new AI project will reportedly have thousands of high-powered GPU processors and a team of engineers from leading AI labs such as DeepMind. It remains to be seen how the project will develop and whether it can challenge the dominance of OpenAI in the AI and machine learning space.
