BRAIN Biotech and AMSilk Collaborate to Develop Sustainable Bio-Based Solutions for the Textile Industry

BRAIN Biotech, a company specializing in the production of bio-based solutions and products for the apparel industry, has partnered with AMSilk, an industrial supplier of innovative biomaterials. AMSilk is known for its biotechnological materials, which are based on renewable carbon structural proteins that are 100% biodegradable and fully recyclable, making them an excellent choice for a wide range of industries such as medical, automotive, and textile.

According to Andreas Schmideder, head of business opportunities and development at BRAIN Biotech, the biomaterials produced by AMSilk have vast potential due to their unique properties. Schmideder added that AMSilk’s structural proteins can be modified at the molecular level, allowing the production of tailor-made products that meet specific market requirements.

Furthermore, Alexander Pelzer, head of research and development at BRAIN Biotech’s Zwingenberg site, highlighted the company’s protein engineering expertise in the collaboration with AMSilk. BRAIN Biotech’s protein optimization technologies, based on rational sequence- and structure-driven design, have already proven their efficacy in many optimization processes. The enzyme technology unit of BRAIN Biotech will further develop these structural proteins in collaboration with AMSilk to achieve higher-performance fibers with the desired properties.
