Facilitating Collaboration for a Stronger Irish Cyber Security Ecosystem: Cyber Ireland’s National Membership and US Partnership
The national cyber security cluster organization, Cyber Ireland, facilitates collaboration among businesses, academia, and government entities to meet the needs of the Irish cyber security ecosystem. With its headquarters situated in Cork, Cyber Ireland boasts a nationwide membership of approximately 140, comprising cybersecurity firms such as Trellix, IBM, Malwarebytes, and other stakeholders.
In addition, the organization features several Irish SMEs and start-ups, as well as prominent US firms, including HPE, MasterCard, Optum, and Qualcomm, with cyber security teams stationed in Ireland. A recent report produced by Cyber Ireland and Cyber Skills has emphasized the importance of this US-Irish cyber security partnership. According to the study, there are already about 500 cybersecurity companies operating in Ireland, employing 7,300 people, with multinationals accounting for seven out of every ten positions.
The same analysis, the first of its kind to map the Irish cybersecurity market, suggests that Ireland has the potential to increase its cyber security workforce to over 17,000 by 2030.
